Team Doctor for the National Collegiate American All-Stars in the France-USA Rugby Centennial
Paris Summer Olympics 2024 Rugby Team Doctor
One hundred years ago, the U.S. upset France in the final Olympic rugby XVs match to win the gold medal. In June 2024, National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) commemorated this historic event by bringing together 32 All-Americans from 27 colleges and universities to face the French University XV in a Centennial match, also marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Dr. Mathew had the honor and privilege of serving as Team Doctor for the National Collegiate American All-Stars during this historic event, providing crucial medical support on the field and sidelines to ensure the players received the care they deserved.
The series began with a 36-20 victory over the Belgium U23 national team, followed by a 49-7 win against a French Polynesian side in 7s. The team then secured a hard-fought 17-7 victory over the French Gendarmerie in XVs. Finally, the NCR All-Americans successfully defended the 1924 Olympic gold medal with a 25-19 win in Suresnes, France against the French Universities team.
